A Word From Mrs. Rasmussen- Principal and Mrs. Putnam- Assistant Principal:
As we step into March, we celebrate the growth and achievements of our students while embracing the excitement of the season ahead. This month brings wonderful opportunities for learning, creativity, and community engagement. From Read Across America activities to spring projects and hands-on learning experiences, our students continue to thrive. We also encourage families to stay involved—whether by attending upcoming school events such as literacy night and conferences, supporting learning at home, or simply cheering on your child’s progress. Thank you for your continued partnership in making our school a warm, welcoming place where every child can succeed!

Attendance is Important
We wanted to take this opportunity to remind you about the importance of regular attendance and arriving at school on time. Massachusetts’ compulsory school attendance law (G.L. c. 76, § 1) requires children between the ages of 6 and 16 to attend school. Students who arrive late on a regular basis often miss their morning meetings and start the day feeling unprepared. As noted in the chart below “lost minutes= lost learning” and that really begins to build as tardiness increases. Establishing good morning routines and preparing the night before are great ways to ensure that you are able to get to school on time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kindergarten Registration
Kindergarten Registration is open for all students that live in Templeton and Phillipston and will be 5 years old by August 31st. Please come and pick up a packet as soon as possible! Registration ends March 7th!!
Early Dismissals
Please be sure to send in a note, email or call the office if you know that your child will be dismissed early. This allows us to have the child ready for that dismissal time. Oftentimes students are at lunch, recess or specials and that takes additional time to get students ready and to the office for pick up. Unless there is an emergency, students should not be dismissed after 2:30 so that it is not disrupting our normal dismissal procedures.
Thank you for your understanding!
World Down Syndrome Day
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) is observed every year on March 21st to raise awareness and promote inclusion, acceptance, and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome. The date (3/21) symbolizes the triplication of the 21st chromosome, which causes Down syndrome.
On this day, people around the world show their support by wearing socks that are bright, colorful, or mismatched to start conversations about diversity and inclusion.
This is a wonderful opportunity to teach students about kindness, acceptance, and the importance of valuing everyone for who they are. Consider joining the movement by wearing your most fun socks on March 21st and helping spread the message of inclusion! 💙💛

We encourage all families to make the time to read together at home! This week, all students will receive a Reading BINGO board. Any student that returns their book bingo card with AT LEAST one BINGO completed and signed off on by an adult, will be entered to win a Barnes & Noble Gift Card!
Here are the BINGO boards if you need extras:
To culminate Read Across America, students and staff will be encouraged to dress up like their favorite BOOK CHARACTER on Friday, March 28th.

March 2025
Preschool & Kindergarten Registration
All incoming preschool and kindergarten students are required to have an updated physical exam, be up to date on their immunizations (or signed medical/religious exemption) and have a lead screening from 9 months of age or later before the start of the 2025-26 school year.
Kindergarten & Fourth-grade families
All kindergarten & 4th graders are required by Massachusetts State Law to have documentation of a recent physical exam. Please make sure to send in a copy of your K/4th-grade student’s physical exam as they have them throughout the school year.
Students with Screening Referrals
Please also send back the screening referral when they have been seen by a specialist. If you need another copy of the referral, I can provide you with one.
Flu Season is here
Please review the flu informational sheet attached HERE. Hand Washing is so important! Please help teach your children how to wash their hands and cough into their elbows. Talk to your child’s physician about getting an annual flu shot.
Cold Weather
The weather is cold; please remember to provide your children with the appropriate outerwear. This includes hats, mittens, scarves, winter jackets, snow pants, and snow boots. It may also be helpful if you labeled your child’s items. Please also put some spare socks in your child’s backpacks, if possible.
