A Word From Mrs. Rasmussen- Principal and Mrs. Putnam- Assistant Principal
Happy New Year, families! As we welcome 2025, I hope your winter break was filled with joy, rest, and cherished moments with loved ones. January is a time for fresh starts, and we’re excited to embark on the second half of our school year with renewed energy and enthusiasm. This month, we’ll focus on setting new goals, fostering a love for learning, and building strong classroom communities. Thank you for your continued support in making our school a place where every child thrives. Here’s to a fantastic year ahead! As we look into the new year, here are some updates:
Academics:
As we enter the mid- point of our school year students will be taking STAR Reading and Math assessments as well as mid year DIBELS. Data from these assessments will allow us to track growth and provide our educators with information that will help guide their instruction.
Social/Emotional:
Looking at the whole child continues to be a priority for us. We absolutely want our students to be successful academically, but in order for that to happen we need to ensure that they are “emotionally well”. Thank you to all who took the time to complete the BIMAS survey that was sent via email earlier this fall. We will be sending another survey in the few weeks to come. We plan to use that information to make certain that we are meeting the emotional needs of all of our students so that they are “ready to learn”. Your input on this survey is extremely important.
Harlem Wizards Game
The Harlem Wizards are coming back to play basketball against the NRSD Staff Team in a fun-filled community event on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 7:00pm in the Narragansett Regional High School gymnasium. Tickets for this event go on sale beginning Monday, November 25, 2024 at 8:00am.

Getting Back Into a Routine
Coming back from a long break is hard for adults and kids! A consistent routine at home provides stability and security, especially for children. It helps set clear expectations, reduces stress, and fosters a sense of responsibility and independence. Routines also create opportunities for quality family time, strengthen relationships, and support healthy habits. Whether it’s through shared meals, bedtime rituals, or regular chore schedules, routines bring structure to daily life, promoting emotional well-being and smoother transitions during busy or challenging times.

ACCESS Testing for ELL Students
ACCESS for ELLs (English Language Learners) refers to a set of standardized assessments designed to measure the English language proficiency of students who are learning English as a second language. These assessments are typically administered in schools in the United States in January. If your child is participating in ACCESS testing, you will receive written notification.
The term "ACCESS" stands for Assessing Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners. It is developed by WIDA (World-Class Instructional Design and Assessment), a consortium of states dedicated to the design and implementation of high standards and equitable educational opportunities for English language learners.
The ACCESS for ELLs assessments cover the four language domains: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The goal is to evaluate students' proficiency in English, and the results can be used to inform instructional planning, assess program effectiveness, and meet state and federal reporting requirements.
The assessments are typically given annually to English language learners, and the scores provide valuable information about students' language development over time. This information is crucial for educators to tailor their instruction to meet the unique needs of English language learners and help them succeed academically.
