Principal’s Flyer #24: February 5, 2023

Dear Warrior Students & Families:

We hope this email finds you all well on a balmy Sunday, after a not-so-balmy end of last week.  Reading about the Polar Vortex was a clear reminder that we are firmly entrenched in February.  Be that as it may, students and families are reminded that we are two weeks out from February vacation.  In the meantime, we’ve had events to celebrate and more to look forward to.  Huge thanks goes out to Ms. Erin O’Dea, Ms. Lauren Caouette, and our NRSD staff for putting together a truly special evening on Thursday night, when the Harlem Wizards came to town.  We’ll limit the photos (below) because we know there are many circulating online, but here are just a few to mark the occasion.  Thanks again to our staff volunteers, and thanks to the community for such a major turnout last Thursday night.

Coming up quickly, please be advised that we will have a performance of the play Macbeth put on by our Theater Guild.  These students have worked incredibly hard to bring plays back to NRHS.  Thank you to Mr. Garrett Schlundt (Director) and Ms. Heather Niemczura (volunteer) for making this happen for our students.  Please find Macbeth performance dates and times listed below.  All performances will be held in the NMS Safka Auditorium.  Again, we hope you’ll come out to celebrate the hard work of these performing arts Warriors! Exciting News: New ‘Gansett Website & Application

As part of the wider district, NRHS has carefully considered both your helpful and positive feedback.  Over the coming weeks, we will be sharing information with you about our new Warrior website and communication system.  While we asked that you stay tuned for information that will be forthcoming, we wanted to preview a few things to be aware of:

  • Our new website is set to go live on Friday, February 17th

  • As part of this updated system, the district will have an application that you can use for all news NRSD, including alerts, daily news, weekly memos, athletics, etc.

  • Per your feedback, we are looking to make information as accessible as possible in one place for ease of use and in a way that’s MOBILE friendly.

  • Please know that we will continue to send information via our current medium (memos and the existing Principal’s Facebook) both leading up to and beyond the 17th so that everyone has an abundance of time to get comfortable with the new information.

  • NRHS will be migrating our official Facebook page as of February 17th as well, and we will post all information you need on our existing pages so that all students and families know exactly where to find everything you need.

  • Finally, Warrior News videos with Ashley and Kayla will continue to be posted regularly.

  • Stay tuned for more information over the coming weeks!

Nursing Notes Reminders: Upcoming Covid Vaccine Clinic & Information

Immunization Compliance

During these last few months, the high school nurse has been focusing on reviewing all student health records for immunization compliance and the need for an individual health care plan for those students with specific medical conditions or health care needs.

In an effort to protect the health and wellness of all students, Massachusetts requires that all students enrolled in school must provide up-to-date immunizations or proof of medical/religious exemptions.  The nurse has reviewed all 11th-grade and 12th-grade students for compliance. An email was sent to the parents of those students who did not meet the immunization requirements.

If needed, please contact your primary care provider to make an appointment for your student to receive the required immunization(s), or please provide the school with the most recent documentation as soon as possible. Medical/religious exemptions must be updated annually. You may provide the documentation via email to jnolin@nrsd.org or to our confidential fax (978) 939-8634.

Individual Health Care Plans

An individual health care plan (IHCP) covers necessary medical information, and it will identify the student’s health needs and how the school will manage them, such as medication or any other medical treatment that would be needed at school. Last week parents would have received an email if their student met that criterion. Parents are encouraged to review the documentation, sign it, and return it to the nursing department. If you feel as though you should have received one or have any questions, please contact Jennifer Nolin, RN at (978) 939-8448 or jnolin@nrsd.org
