Principal’s Flyer #25: February 9, 2025
Dear Students & Families:
We hope you’re enjoying the weekend and prepared not only for the Super Bowl, but also more snow. Given we know you’ll be occupied perhaps with both the weather and game, we’re sending this memo earlier than usual this week and reminding everyone that this upcoming week we’ll host an 8th grade dance on Valentine’s Day (Friday Night) and all students will be on winter break February 17th through 21st.
We’d like to take a moment to share a couple acknowledgements this week. Firstly, our partners at Heywood Hospital have been acknowledged repeatedly by the Massachusetts Association for Mental Health in a recent report: regarding Tele-Behavioral Health for Middle and High School Students: Best Practices and Policy Considerations for Massachusetts. As you may know, our partners offer a variety of virtual tele-health and behavioral health to our high school that support students through counseling, substance-abuse awareness and youth mentoring and support. In recent years, Heywood has scaled up services to our students and now includes telemedicine as well. We are fortunate to have these services available to our students on site and as a complement to our strong school counseling / guidance counseling services at the high school. Kudos and bravo to our partners for their recognition in this important report outlining best-practices and services for middle and high school students.
Secondly, our Athletic Director, Brad Bond has been selected as the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletics Directors Association Executive Board (MSSADA) Theodore “Ted” Damko Award recipient. This award goes to “... an Athletics Administrator who has exemplified the highest standards of their profession and has made significant contributions to their school community.” Congratulations to Mr. Bond, who has been selected by his peers for this honor.
Massachusetts State Seal of Biliteracy: Founding Cohort at NRHS |
This week NRHS has its first ever cohort of students pursuing the State Seal of Biliteracy, which recognizes high school graduates who attain high functional and academic levels of proficiency in English and a world language in recognition of having studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Massachusetts is using this award to help students recognize the value of their academic success and see the tangible benefits of being bilingual. Our first cohort takes the language assessment this week! We wish you luck this week Warriors!
Term 2 Principal’s List & Honor Roll |
