Principal’s Flyer #24: February 2, 2025

Dear Students & Families:

We hope you’ve had a wonderful weekend, and are feeling like you’ve hit your winter stride as we’re now in February, and term three of our academic school year.  This memo will include some important, long-term schedule updates and reminders.  But before we get into that, we’d like to thank Varsity Letterman’s Club (Erin O’Dea and Lauren Caouette) as well as our Athletic Department for our most recent NRSD Staff vs. Harlem Wizards Game.  The planning and collaboration that goes into this event is literally a year in the making, so thank you to all involved, and to our staff and everyone who played and/or came out for a fun night!  We love seeing everyone have a blast!

This week is National School Counseling Week, and we’d like to acknowledge our counseling and support team at NRHS for its ongoing work with our Warriors!  Kudos also goes out this week to our musicians for participating in recent Quabbin Valley Music Educators Association practices and performances.  We’re wishing Ryleigh LaFrennie, Taylor Wentworth, Anastasia Croteau, Giulia Imbriglio, Charlotte Adams, Kyaraliz Perez, Connor Johnson, and Addyson Lerman continued luck in QVMEA!

Term 2 Principal’s List & Honor Roll

For Term 2, NRHS had 203 students on the Honor Roll or Principal’s List.  Outstanding work Warriors!  Please note:

  • PL denotes Principal’s List: Student has earned all A’s for Term 2

  • H denotes Honors: Student has earned all A’s & Bs’ for Term 2

  • Our next term (3) will close April 2nd.  So Warriors, you have sufficient time to sustain and improve your academic performance!

Important Updates to State Testing - MCAS

The ballot vote in November eliminated MCAS as a graduation requirement in Massachusetts.  School districts across the state are now required to certify high school students’ competency through the completion of coursework in English Language Arts, Math, and Science.  The Narragansett Regional School District’s School Committee voted to adopt a Graduation Requirements Policy IFK on January 16, 2025, outlining local graduation requirements and competency determination for the class of 2025 and beyond.

Please be aware that, per the state, districts are still required to administer MCAS tests to all students in grades 3-8 and grade 10.  Results of MCAS assessments will continue to be shared with students and families, analyzed by teachers, and used by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for school accountability purposes.  Additionally, student MCAS scores are still applied to a variety of recognitions, scholarships, and college applications.  For your advanced planning purposes, here are testing dates for high school students.  As always, we look forward to helping our students perform their best on their upcoming assessments.
