Principal’s Flyer #13: November 11, 2024
Dear Students & Families:
Today we’re wishing you all a happy Veterans Day, and would like to thank the many veterans for their service and who work directly with our students here in the high school: Tom Salvadore (Navy), Eric Supple (Army), Cory Rogers (Army), Ed Podrazik (Coast Guard) and Dr. Casavant (Air Force). Thank you also to Warrior Coaches Jim Brehio, Jackie Gould, and Brandon Comeau who are also Veterans.
Thank you also to our many fans and community members who have been out and about supporting NRHS during a very busy fall season! For starters, congratulations to our football team for an electric playoff win against Old Colony under the Friday Night Lights. Big congratulations also goes out to our Cross Country Team and outstanding student athletes for competition in states. Our boys placed 9th and girls placed 14th. Shayla Massicotte finished 10th overall and Quinn Wiedle placed 35th; both are going to all-state competition!
Thank you to our families and community members for making the 2024 Turkey Raffle so successful this weekend. And although it was such an action packed week and last Monday feels to be a long time ago, congratulations to our student athletes for some serious flag competition and cheering at our 2024 installment of the PowderPuff Game. This is always an incredibly fun night. Thanks for your support and to Varsity Letterman’s Club for organizing, and to our Class Advisors for some creative play calls. And finally, we’re all aware it’s been dry lately…Check out what Senior Tyler Orcutt (left) has been doing with the Winchendon Fire Department for his internship…dealing with a brush fire over the weekend.

Attention Senior Families: Save the Date! In support of families of students pursuing college and/or post high school programming, consider joining our financial aid informational night. The feedback we receive from families each year is that this session helps demystify the financial aid application process.
Here’s our flyer for 2024 Financial Aid Night, which is scheduled 6:15 - 7:15 PM to allow families additional time to attend conferences.
Attention All Families: Have a question about one of our many scholastic programs: Accelerated Coursework, Advanced Placement, Project Lead the Way, Montachusett Vocational Partnership, Early College, Academic Coaching and/or our Program of Studies generally?
Stop by the main lobby during conferences and ask a counselor. Our team will be available to answer any questions that come to mind during conferences. Just drop by with a question or just to say hello. No appointment to speak with a counselor is needed. We enjoy connecting with families and hope to see you at a teacher conference or counselor drop-in.
NRHS & The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) |
NEASC Survey Link Now Live in Your Inboxes. Families are reminded to take an important parent/family community survey to help inform our school as we enter our Self-Reflection and Goal Setting phase of our accreditation cycle.
Most parents/guardians will complete the survey in 10 minutes. You will note that our family survey has been professionally translated from English into Arabic, Haitian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Respondents can choose their language preference from a pull-down menu above the title on the welcome screen to complete the survey in these languages. Please reach out to our main office via Cristal Smith (csmith@nrsd.org) or 978-939-5388 with any questions.
Please note that surveys do not save, so thank you in advance for allotting 10 or so minutes to complete the survey in one setting. To avoid students accidentally taking the family survey (students will be given a separate student survey), a separate email will be sent to parents & families at 5:00 PM November 3rd via email. When opened the survey will submit as unique to each respondent.

To conclude this weekly update we’d like to say thank you to all students and families for continuing to get your students to school on time. NRHS has made major gains or “significant growth” in this area. Especially during a season in which we all may be stretched thin in trying to balance work, school, and life; we appreciate your support in getting students to school. Here’s some research on the importance of school attendance as it pertains to immediate and long-term outcomes and what districts are thinking about to help in this effort.
One last congratulations to all Term 1 honor roll students. Bravo Warriors! We’re looking forward to all students having a strong second term.
