Principal’s Flyer #8: October 6, 2024
Dear Students & Families:
We hope you’ve had an outstanding weekend. We’d like to thank all our little (and big) minions for showing up to Friday Nights Lights! Check out a couple pictures from the Friday minion-night thriller. Please remember to save the date for the Class of 2025’s Trunk or Treat, which will be held Saturday, October 26th..and all 8th graders are reminded that your dance will be held on October 18th at NRHS from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Details can be found here. Tickets go on sale this week!
Today we’d like to celebrate several items with you. Firstly, as schools across the State of Massachusetts are navigating challenges with student attendance, NRHS has increased student attendance and decreased student chronic absenteeism significantly over the past year. Thank you to our students and parents for taking improved school attendance seriously. Not only is this an accountability measure that helps out school rating positively, but it is integral to student success. Your attention to helping students arrive at school on time (students: be in the classroom for 7:45 AM sharp) for the entirety of the school day is integral to their success.
NRHS has again been named to the College Board Advanced Placement AP Honor Roll. The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools that have done outstanding work to welcome more students into AP courses and support them on the path to college success. Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. The students who enter four-year colleges with credit from AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success.
Finally, long-time Warrior “Mickey” Kirby has been named Coach of the Year by his peers the Massachusetts Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA) for his coaching and outstanding/positive impact on his team and student athletes during the 23-24 season. We wanted you to know if you hadn’t already heard this news. Coach Kirby will be honored on November 24th. Congratulations to Coach Kirby…and thank you also to our players and families for supporting Warrior Athletics and outstanding coaches like Mickey Kirby.
MyCAP: My Career and Academic Plan |
Thank you to our students for your investment in career and future academic planning this past week. Students participated in our initial lessons, which are important opportunities for all students (college-bound or career/work-force bound) to inventory their interests and skills, explore career paths and opportunities, to acquire tools for acting on their interests and aspirations, and to connect with teachers and mentors in a low-stakes manner. We will continue to run period MyCAP lessons throughout the school year to best equip our students for life after NRHS.To read more about the MyCAP, visit https://www.doe.mass.edu/ccte/sec-design/mycap/default.html
Varsity Letterman’s Powderpuff Game (2024!) |
Varsity Letterman’s Powderpuff Game 2024 has been scheduled for this fall. We’ll post a flyer over the next several weeks, but we recommend saving the date for the evening of November 4th. Note: students are off from school on November 5th for an all district professional development day. So students, you can jumpstart your day off with an evening of Powder Puff Football.
