Principal’s Flyer #7: September 29, 2024
Dear Students & Families:
We hope you’ve had an outstanding weekend! Big thanks to our students and families for coming out to our first Friday Night Lights football game. We love seeing families at games both home and away across all athletic teams! Here are just a few photos of a late September Friday night including a convincing Warriors win, the Cheer Team, and, of course, a bunch of great students showcasing neon and transporting us back to the ‘80’s. And if Friday night lights don’t make you smile, check out our ‘Gansett Warriors participating in the Central Mass United Way Day of Caring projects at Crocker Pond in Westminster. Thank you Warriors for giving back and having a little fun while doing so!
We’d also like to flag some upcoming student/community events we’d like you to be aware of. Save the date for these outstanding events, as they are key traditions here at NRHS. Save the date for the Class of 2025’s Trunk or Treat! Trunk or Treat will be held Saturday, October 26th. And, if you haven’t had enough football from either the pros (sigh our Patriots), College Saturdays, OR our Warriors teams…then you’re in luck: Varsity Letterman’s Powderpuff Game 2024 has been scheduled for this fall. We’ll post a flyer over the next several weeks, but we recommend saving the date for the evening of November 4th. Note: students are off from schoolNovember 5th for an all district professional development day. So students, you can jumpstart your day off with an evening of Powder Puff Football.
Finally, 8th Grade: your Halloween Dance is ON. It will be held the evening of October 18th at NRHS from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. Be on the lookout for details from your class advisors Ms. Flood & Ms. Guild. We look forward to your first dance as high school students!
MyCAP: My Career and Academic Plan |
Last year NRSD secured a grant to help provide support and additional education for all students to begin thinking proactively about their interests, skills, and strengths in order to be college and/or career and civic ready upon graduation. With input and preparation two years in the making, we are pleased to share with you that periodically throughout the year, we will break into co-facilitated groups where students can:
Inventory their interests and skills
Explore career paths and opportunities
Learn about themselves in a process of self-discovery
Acquire tools for acting on their interests and aspirations, while…
Connecting with teachers and mentors in a low-stakes manner
On MyCAP days, students will engage in this learning in the afternoons. Students’ first MyCAP day will be October 3rd. There is nothing students need to do to prepare. We just wanted to highlight the work that will be done so you’re aware and can engage in conversations about it as you so wish!
