Principal’s Flyer #3: September 2, 2024

Dear Students & Families:

We hope you’ve had a wonderful Labor Day Holiday weekend and are looking forward to getting fully back into the (school) groove this upcoming week.  We’d like to thank our students and staff for a very smooth, productive, and fun welcome back week!  We are looking forward to picking up instructional momentum this upcoming week.  Big thanks to Varsity Letterman’s Club (VLC), Ms. Erin O’Dea, Ms. Lauren Couette, and VLC students for bringing school spirit events to NRHS!  VLC kicked things off with school-wide welcome back bingo on Thursday, with some lucky students and staff winning Warrior Merch. and other prizes.  Here are just a couple snapshots to capture the day, and thanks again to VLC and staff volunteers for making this happen!

Student Family Handbook, 2024-2025.  Families are advised that the 2024-2025 NRSD Student and Family Handbook is available on our website for review.

• Please find, linked here, step-by-step instructions for finding and acknowledging the handbook

• Handbooks should be reviewed and signed by families/parents/guardians within the first two weeks of school by September 12th.

Beginning of Year Forms (BOY). Students received several forms that we ask families to review and return to the main office ASAP.   These forms include medical forms, media release forms, dental care forms and military recruitment opt-out forms (seniors). Additionally, all students will have information about purchasing a school picture package for all-school back-to-school pictures on September 10th.  Thank you for returning these forms ASAP.  

• Special note to 9th grade families - you will receive an updated chromebook at the beginning of this school year.  To receive your new chromebook, the handbook must be signed off / acknowledged by your families. 

Updating your Contact Information.  Finally, if your contact information has changed and you need to update it, families/guardians can update their information (i.e. name, phone, email, address, etc.) by clicking on "Change Request" in the portal.  This change request goes directly to our registrar, who will update School Brains with your new information promptly.  

School Pictures for all 8-12 students will be held on Tuesday, September 10th and Senior families are advised that senior portrait date signups are ongoing. 

Note that September 10th happens to be a school spirit day.  Students who are wearing spirit gear on picture day are advised to bring a change of clothes for your school picture.  This works out well each year.  We love that our students get into spirit week, and we also know that our families love school photos they are proud to give to friends and relatives.  We’ll remind students of this as school picture day approaches.  

• Senior families (only) please review this important note regarding Senior photos and our Yearbook 

• If you do not have yet signed up for a senior portrait, no worries!  Our final sessions are coming up this week (9/4 & 9/5) you can see them when you visit schedule.prestigeportraits.com.

• All seniors must have a senior portrait taken by our photography company for the yearbook

• The sitting fee for the basic portrait is $20 dollars.  Any family needing assistance with this sitting fee can reach out to the High School Main Office.

• Seniors who do not sit for a senior portrait, we will use your school picture photo in our yearbook.

Attention Students and Community!  Warrior Fest and homecoming week will be held early this year during the week of September 9th 2024.  Varsity Letterman’s Club and students/participants have met over the summer and plans are coming together. Here’s what to know…and Save the Date!

• Spirit Week Schedule Poster (students: this is one of our first major spirit weeks of the year)

• Homecoming Dance is Friday September 13th at Otter River Sportsman’s Club.  

  • Theme: Disco Fever, Check it out!

• Warrior Fest will be held Saturday, September 14th!

  • Local Vendors, Music, Booths, and Games 4:00 PM - 10:00 PM for all families

  • ‘Gansett Varsity Football vs. Monty Tech @ 7:00 PM

  • Fireworks will take place @ 9:00 PM (Conditions Permitting)

  • We’ll send weekly reminders about Warrior Fest as the school year begins

Note: all homecoming week events are open to 8-12 students.  The exception to this is the 9-12 homecoming dance.  8th graders and their families are advised that we will be holding a fall dance for 8th grade students!

Families of students taking the bus: please make sure to check your bus routes.  Students needing any support help with their bus number can check in with the main office.  We’re happy to help you!  Thanks in advance for understanding:

• Students must ride only their assigned bus; we do not give passes to ride other buses given high numbers of bus ridership.

Late Bus Schedule.  NRSD runs a late bus for students who need to stay after school to work with their teachers.  Late buses will begin the week of September 9th, and run Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays.  Late bus stops may be different from your normal stop, but late buses try to arrange their routes so students riding them can be dropped as close to their residence as possible.

• Note: students riding the late bus should get a pass from their teacher and should report to the MS front doors around 2:50 PM.  

  • Teacher office hours begin directly after school, and all teachers hold office hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, or Friday.

  • Students can check with their teachers and/or counselors to know when each teacher holds “office hours” / after school help sessions. 

We love seeing Warriors Gear everywhere!  Are you looking for some Warriors “Merch”?  Here are three places you can find Warriors merchandise:

1. Field Hockey Team Gear?!  Please visit the Varsity Field Hockey team store: https://gansettfieldhockey.secure-decoration.com/

   1. The store will remain open through Labor Day, don’t delay, time is running out to grab FIeld Hockey gear!

2. Warriors Athletics Gear. Items typically arrive in 5 weeks.  This store is scheduled to close on Sept. 11th.

3. Come to Warrior Fest on Saturday September 14th!  In addition to games, vendors, (fireworks) evening, food, and activities - you can purchase Warriors Gear at Warrior Fest.  

• The lower gym lot will be closed for parking on Tuesday (9/3) to accommodate Election Voting in the High School Gym. 

• Fire Drills and Bus Evacuations are state mandated and always held at the beginning of the school year.  We will be holding both over the next couple weeks. 

• All student drivers must display their parking passes to drive to school as of this Tuesday (9/3).

• Rho Kappa Social Studies Honors Society with Ms. Jamie Charrier will meet Tuesday, September 10 after school in room 133, 2:30-2:55. 

• Deck Hockey.  Fall Registration for 2024 Outdoor Street Hockey is now open.

• Youth Bowling. Signups for Gardner 10-pin League Bowling are NOW!
