Principal’s Flyer #31: March 31, 2024

Dear Students & Families:

We hope you’ve enjoyed a wonderful, extended weekend, and are feeling the promise of spring!  Spring sports are now underway as we are reminded by the baseball gloves and ping of bats that signal warmer weather.  Thank you to all 10th grade students and families for showing up on time to MCAS last week.  NRHS continues to have an extremely strong participation rate, which is helpful to our school and state review.  Thank you again to all students, families, and our staff for making our MCAS season a very smooth one thus far.  Next up this week, we have eighth grade students taking MCAS on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.  As always, we will send students their room assignments in advance of testing so that everyone is on the same page on the day of testing.

A reminder to all families at the top of this memo that Spring Conferences (April 10th & 11th) are around the corner, with signups open now!  Please refer to this document for all information regarding conference times, how to sign up, and all related information.  Our window to sign up will remain open until April 7th @ 11:59 PM.

Finally, a reminder that our 3rd quarter/term closes this Monday, April 1st.  Students: don’t forget to have those final assignments completed and to finish the quarter off on a high note. Report cards will be released in our Community Portal for Friday, April 5th.

Upcoming MCAS Student Testing Dates

Sincere thanks to NRHS parents who have been, frankly, wonderful partners in helping us ensure all NRHS students meet this important graduation requirement.   As we move through MCAS season, we’ll update you as to which exams are slated for each week.

The Department of Public Health has reviewed the CDC’s new guidance regarding respiratory virus isolation strategies.

DPH has updated its recommendations for the general public to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses, accessible here: Staying home to prevent the spread of respiratory viruses | Mass.gov

  • Stay home when you have symptoms of any respiratory illness, like flu, COVID-19, and RSV. Staying home when sick helps prevent the spread of germs.

  • You may begin to resume normal activities with precautions if: 1. You have not had a fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicines AND 2. Your symptoms are improving

  • If you test positive for a respiratory virus, isolation is no longer required, however you may choose to stay home for about 72 hours to help reduce the chances that you spread the virus to others.

  • Families and students are reminded that any absence due to a medical reason can only be marked excused by sending in a medical note signed by a medical provider or having been evaluated by a school nurse and deemed too ill for school.
