Principal’s Flyer #26: February 25, 2024

Dear Students & Families:

We hope you are feeling recharged after the February vacation!  Each year, we make note that the stretch of time between February and April vacation proves to be the most productive and uninterrupted learning time over the course of the school year.  We expect this year to be no different.   As we return from school, please be advised that we will meet with all students on Monday to review expectations for school wide behavior, and that cell-phone use is not permitted during class unless otherwise stipulated by the teacher.  This helps students get into a groove mentally, and can help support focus for valuable skill development including reading comprehension, particularly among younger students.  At NRHS, we are extremely fortunate to have outstanding students who are fundamentally supportive and respectful of our learning environment.  Thank you in advance to all families for supporting our usual post-break reminder of expectations in order to support a productive winter and spring semester.

Finally, at the top of this memo, we’d like to celebrate the NRSD counseling team, which was featured in the Commissioner of Education’s memo, after earning recognition from the National Association of School Psychologists. Kudos to our team for this recognition, which is composed of counselors, psychologists, behavior analysts, and related support staff.  Thank you to this team for all it does for NRSD students.

Character & Leadership: Sportsmanship & Fan Conduct

A quick reminder for all that NRHS has invited a special guest speaker, Dr. Joseph Hoedel to address our student body to help inspire our students to cultivate and exhibit character, leadership, and integrity in the school environment and in their wider communities.  Dr. Hoedel is known for his organization, which promotes character and leadership among students and student athletes, and has been featured on the news on numerous instances.  As an all school assembly, Dr. Hoedel will work with our 8-12 Warriors this coming Wednesday, February 28th.

Additionally be advised that Dr. Hoedel will talk with our student athletes as a means to inspire our students and parents to exhibit sportsmanship and supportive conduct at athletic events.  Dr. Hoedel will be speaking with NRSD student athletes and parents, Murdock student athletes, as well as student athletes from our athletics league with three goals in mind:

  • To build relationships and good will between are athletes from different communities

  • To address rising sportsmanship and fan conduct issues in youth sports

  • To foster dialogue between students and parents about the type of conduct our athletes appreciate, and that will represent our athletic league and school well.

Athletes, Coaches and Families:
