Dear Students & Families:

Happy 2024!  We sincerely hope all of our students, families, and staff have had a wonderful holiday break, and are feeling rejuvenated as we begin 2024.  Our memo this week will be brief, as we hope you’re celebrating the New Year and getting ready to resume school this week.  Before we look ahead to what will be a great calendar year, we wanted to take a moment to thank all NRHS staff who put together an outstanding activity day during our last day of school in 2023!  Special thanks to our staff, as well as Erin O’Dea, Lauren Couette, and Varsity Letterman’s Club volunteers for putting together a day of non-traditional learning to send NRHS into break.  Thanks also to Student Council, Warrior Leaders, and Michelle Smith for coordinating Holiday Spirit Days as well as our Holiday Food Drive.  And finally, to all ‘Gansett Staff who helped anonymously fund gifts for any family needing a hand this holiday season…Thank you.  If you’re not familiar, each year NRHS runs a very low profile yet impactful holiday gift drive, which started as NRHS staff helping to support any family we are aware of that might need some support.  Thank you again to Warrior Staff for supporting our kids and this community, and to Kris Ann Stancombe for coordinating this tradition.  We are incredibly grateful. 

Now that we are officially in 2024, February 1st is around the corner.  A reminder that the Harlem Wizards are coming to play the NRSD staff once again! Please find your staff roster, below.

Please be advised that after the holiday break, NRSD staff will lead students through carefully constructed, grade-level appropriate lessons regarding school safety and situational awareness.  Please take a moment to review our School Safety and ALICE letter to our community, from Dr. Casavant.  As always, thank you to our families, staff, community, and local police and fire departments for their partnership in promoting a safe learning environment for our students.

• Term 2 Grades Close January 19th.  As we get back into the swing of school, all students and families are reminded that the last day of term 2 will be Friday, January 19th.  

  • A reminder that this date will come up quickly!

  • Students and families are reminded that all teachers hold office after school if you can benefit from extra help!

  • If you don’t know a teacher’s office hours, just ask a teacher (your counselors can also help!)

  • Remember, we run late buses on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday school days. 

• 8th Graders.  Please be advised we’ll convene all 8th grade students to help them learn about courses and science pathways available to them this coming Thursday, January 4th during G block.

• NRSD SEPAC Meetings (First Monday, Monthly). Parents of students with IEPs, please join us for a SEPAC meeting every first Monday via Zoom! Check the SEPAC website for a zoom link and more information, or email Christie Schwinger at sepac@nrsd.org.

As we enter the New Year, we’re glad to have you back at school Warriors!  We’re looking forward to a great winter (and calendar year) ahead!
