Principal’s Flyer #9: October 15, 2023
Dear Students & Families:
We hope you’ve enjoyed (are still!) enjoying your weekend and are anticipating Homecoming Week this week, along with Warrior Fest this coming Saturday. With all the fall in New England being such a special time, we hope you will get into the homecoming spirit this week by attending athletics matches, enjoying our Friday Pep Rally, attending Warrior Fest, and, of course, participating in Spirit Week this week!
This week are thanking Ms. Donnelly, Ms. Jasinski, Ms. Briggs, and our Technology Department for making PSATs happen for juniors and interested sophomores. The College Board has experienced one heck of a time ensuring their testing site and related digital programming worked (at all)...but our counseling and technology teams were able to adapt to some major obstacles and make sure students had an opportunity to take the tests. Big thanks to our folks for making it happen for students despite a high degree of difficulty this year.
Reminder: This Saturday October 21, 2023. Warrior Fest! |
Varsity Letterman’s Club puts on a major district wide event known as Warrior Fest. VLC brings out food trucks, games and activities for kids, capped with an evening home Saturday night football game and professional fireworks display sponsored by VLC/NRSD.
Don’t forget this is an open event: bring family and friends!
Big thanks to Ms. O’Dea and Ms. Caouette for organizing this undertaking
NRHS Receives Scholastic Recognition |
In case you missed it, last week NRHS received two Scholastic Awards NRHS has been given as a result of the hard work of Warrior students and staff. The first is what has now become a routine selection to US News and World Reports Best Public High Schools in the US. Secondly, NRHS has been cited as an Advanced Placement School Honor Roll, silver award.
The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
NRHS had 55% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 32%of seniors scoring a three or higher on at least one AP exam, and 23% of seniors who took five or more AP exams! Click here to see the full press release. Again, great job to NRHS students and staff!

Massachusetts Stem Week |
This Monday, October 16th marks Massachusetts' celebration of STEM week. What you may not have known is that NRHS offers some of the most unique Science Technology and Engineering curricula in Massachusetts and nationwide. In addition to core offerings including Biology and Physics at the College Preparation and Advanced Placement level, like Environmental Science, Astronomy and Meteorology (and yes Chemistry is a still a thing), NRHS is also a flagship school for the program Project Lead the Way, which you can see is featured on Mass.Gov website and supported by the Healey-Driscoll MA administration. As NRHS students, Warriors can take unique STEM courses and earn special recognition in the following pathways, which are incredibly forward leaning and visible when students pursue college and/or career opportunities as they graduate high school:
Project Lead the Way Computer Science Pathway
Essentials of Computer Science,
Cybersecurity, and
Principles of Computer Science
Project Lead the Way Engineering Pathway
Introduction to Engineering Design,
Principles of Engineering, and
Civil Engineering and Architecture
Project Lead the Way Biomedical Science Pathway
Principles of Biomedical Science,
Human Body Systems, and
Medical Interventions
If you’re thinking, courses like this weren’t offered when I was a kid…you’re right. Additionally, they still aren’t in many schools. Over the years, NRSD has secured significant grant money to grow and fund these programs to make them universally accessible to all NRSD students beginning in the lower grades. Please note that while nearly all students take Automation Robotics in grade 8, students will need to choose to continue on in this program as they rise to grade 9 classes and beyond.
We review all course options, including PLTW STEM each year with students. However, if you’re a parent/guardian reading this memo and you’d like to learn more, click here. AND, don’t hesitate to reach out to your student’s guidance counselor if you’d like to make sure you/your child can benefit from this programming. Finally, be on the lookout for NRHS receiving further awards for our stem program this coming week!
