Principal’s Flyer #3: September 4, 2023
Dear Students & Families:
We sincerely hope you’re enjoying a wonderful Labor Day weekend, marked by glorious weather and fun as well as anticipation of a busy and festive upcoming fall. This week marks the first week we really begin to settle in and establish school-wide routines. All students and families please note: this is the last week for add/drop. We thank you in advance to everyone for your patience as we balance class sizes for long term effective learning with students requesting choices in their schedule. At the top of our memo, we’d like to thank students and families for doing a great job getting to school and class on time this year. As we’ve written, this is a major point of emphasis for NRHS this year. Strong start Warriors!
Finally, in case you missed the pictures on our website/app or social media, here are just a couple photos marking our opening week!

Handbook Signatures & Beginning of Year Forms (BOY) |
Handbooks. Parents/families are reminded to review your handbook and sign-off on this acknowledgement through the parent/family portal. A few additional reminders/clarifications:
Parents/families must sign off the handbook through a parent/guardian account
You received an email on August 14th similar to this message
Contact the HS main office if you have challenges signing in, or email Dylan Oxford (doxford@nrsd.org)
We cannot issue student chromebooks and other key items to students without acknowledgment of the handbook.
Beginning of Year Forms. BOY forms were sent home with your student on Tuesday of last week. Note these forms include several pieces of information you can use to opt-out and opt-into related health services/medical information. Student forms should be returned to the main office.
Important Note: Free and Reduced Lunch Form: Please Complete & Return! We are asking that all families consider completing and returning the free and reduced lunch form. We hold these forms confidential, but many families do not realize that completion of these forms has major implications for money that state awards to NRHS and the district for funding.
Understanding that school lunch is now free for all students, thank you for taking the time to complete and return these forms as doing so helps the district secure funding to cover the cost of teachers, supplies and other educational materials and services. We cannot overstate how important this is.
School Pictures Upcoming! |
All School Pictures. Our Picture Day Date: Tuesday, September 12. All students (grades 8-12) were sent home with picture information last Tuesday.
Special Note: Seniors, even if you have already had your senior portrait taken, you will still sit for a school picture photo.

Digital Health & Safety: Visiting Expert, Katie Greer |
This year NRSD is bringing in Ms. Katie Greer, an expert in Digital Health and Safety, to speak with middle school and high school students on Wednesday, September 13th during the school day. Some of you may have attended her family presentation in March of 2022.
We are also writing to invite you to our Parent/Guardian-only presentation (with Q&A) that same evening, September 13, from 6:00pm-7:00pm in the NRHS Kiva Auditorium.
Please see information attached regarding Ms. Greer’s topics and approach
You’ll find Superintendent, Dr. Casvant’s letter to the community here.
NRHS will provide supervision/”babysitting” services from 6:00 - 7:00 PM in the High School library. Just stop with your child/children in the library if you’d like to attend but need a little support with evening supervision. We are happy to help!

2023-2024 Theater Guild. Please see important Theater Guild meeting information for the upcoming year, here.
Attention Seniors and Senior Families. If you haven’t yet booked or had difficulty finding appointment availability, don’t forget to book a Senior Portrait appointment.

An informational letter with reminders and a makeup date is here.
Attention Early College Juniors. Juniors taking Early College courses as part of our NRHS-Fitchburg State-Mount Wachusett Early College program: please be reminded that we have orientation this week.
Early College reminders were sent to juniors, and can be viewed here.
Orientation for juniors taking classes at NRHS takes place on Tuesday, September 5th, beginning A Block
Academic Testing. Students and families are advised that all students will take a brief screener/assessment in their English and Math classes as a snapshot of each student’s current proficiency in math and reading. This assessment will take place on Friday, September 8th.
Late Buses and Teacher Office Hours. NRHS staff are available after school to help your students. All teachers will provide office hours during which they are available to work with students after school each week. The district runs late buses (beginning on Monday, Sept. 11th) on Mondays, Tuesday, and Thursdays each week so that students can stay after school to receive help from teachers if afternoon transition poses any issue. A few particulars:
The late bus route/related information is available online
Students must have a pass from their teacher
All students staying after school must be with an adult (coach, club advisor, or academic teacher) in order to stay after school past afternoon pickup.
Thanks for a great first week everyone. We’re excited to get into a routine this week. Don’t forget to scroll below to see our athletic calendars and weekly events.
