Principal’s Flyer #37: May 21, 2023
Dear Warrior Students & Families:
We hope you’re enjoying a busy May weekend. While it may seem hard to believe we are now just about a month out from our last day of school, within a couple weeks from our Class of 2023 graduation. Our memo this week is dedicated to a great deal of outstanding work that our students are doing. From participation in academic competitions, to performance, to receiving feedback from industry partners and exhibiting work, May has been a tremendously fun month to experience outstanding work going on at the high school.
To begin the week, we’d like to say thank you to our 8th grade parents and volunteers for well into the thousands of dollars to support students visiting our nation’s capital. For students attending Washington, DC this week and remaining here at NRHS, we’re confident this week is going to be well worth the planning. Again, thank you to our 8th grade parents for being incredibly supportive of our students. The participation and cooperation we’ve received from our 8th grade community has been outstanding. Thank you also to Varsity Letterman’s Club, Ms. Caouette and Ms. O’Dea, for organizing Friday’s school-wide competition.
We’re also reminding everyone that senior week is on the doorstep. Seniors will have a shortened week this week, complete with activities scheduled for Tuesday (Senior Give Back Day) and Athletics awards for families of student athletes. As we run up to senior “week”, families of Seniors are reminded to track the calendar, and reach out to our seniors advisors, Ms. Lyons (alyons@nrsd.org) and/or Ms. Buckman (sbuckman@nrsd.org) with any questions. Seniors’ last day of formal classes will be on this Wednesday, May 21st, with senior “week” events and activities extending nearly a full two weeks until graduation, June 2nd. AND, please check out our district and high school social media for Graduating Senior Profiles!
Finally, a quick reminder that our 2023 Memorial Day Observance is open to the public and will be held on Friday, May 26, beginning at 1:15 p.m. in the Elinor J. Putnam Gymnasium.
Final MCAS June 6th & June 7th |
MCAS Update. Thank you to all our students and families for your excellent attendance and participation in MCAS. Our participation rate in this test (which is tracked by the state and factors into our State ratings) has been nearly 99%. We now have one test remaining after graduation, for 9th grade biology students.
Grade 9 Students

Celebrating Outstanding Work by Warrior Students & Staff! |
Big congratulations goes out this week to many, many outstanding Warrior student-athletes, scholars, artists, and performers.
Well done to our Competition Robotics students, who accompanied Mr. Gagnon to Oakmont. NRHS students competed against 10 schools and 32 teams. Nate Longmuir, Derek Plummer, Phoenix Drowne, Brent Nystrom, and Jake Wise won the tournament. Aiden Bancroft, Cody LeBlanc, Collin Smith, Kaeden McCullough won second place; and Jake Pervier and Hunter Barlow won the judges’ award for exceptional performance of one single robot. Check out the competition details here!
Kudos goes out to our Project Lead the Way STEM students, who presented work to over 250 industry professionals at an “Industry Showcase” in partnership with the One8 Foundation. Students presented Biomedical Science and Engineering projects for expert review and critique.
Bravo goes out to our NRHS Concert Band, Jazz Band, and Chorus for their Spring Concert on Thursday night. Students performed three sets mixing multicultural music and mediums for our audience. Thanks to all our families and students that were in attendance to support our high school performers!
Congratulations to our senior Warrior student athletes, who are on to play sports at the collegiate level: Jason Baxter, Football for Western New England; Bryce Matuszewski, Football for Worcester State; Danielle Forth, Softball for Fitchburg State University; Lakoda Drowne, Softball and Baseball for MCLA; Ashley Kilbury, Soccer for Westfield State; and Kayla Desrosiers, D1 Cheerleading for UMASS.
Check out the PreCalculus graphing projects (below), which were produced by Ms. Richard’s junior/senior PreCalculus students, tasked with creating equations that capture plot points to render impressive designs. The designs show concepts in engineering and the natural world reflected in the world around us. Kudos to these outstanding mathematicians.
And finally, check out some of the stunning artwork on display in the school by Ms. Kowalczyk’s Art, Painting, and Ceramics students this year. If you are reading this memo and are connected to a public space and would like to display our artwork, please reach out to cyoung@nrsd.org and/or kkowalcyzk@nrds.org. The growth of our artists and quality of their work is simply inspiring, and we’re hoping for as wide an audience as possible to enjoy it. Kudos again to our Warrior artists!
Thanks for taking on time to review the beautiful work our students are doing. The work reflected here is exemplary of our students’ intellectualism and creativity, academic resilience, and the dedication of staff and students.
