Principal’s Flyer #30: March 26, 2023
Dear Warrior Students & Families:
Happy Spring everyone, we hope you are enjoying the recent balmy temperatures and intermittent sun this weekend. As we look toward March, our academic schedule is going to pick up steam as we enter MCAS season. Please be advised that all grade 10 students will take MCAS this Tuesday and Wednesday March 28th and 29th. On MCAS days, it is important that students be on time to school with a fully charged and operational chromebook, having had a good night’s rest the evening before. Passing the MCAS is a state requirement for a high school diploma, and one that, historically, NRHS students have fared very well on provided students arrive at school ready to their best.
We’d like to shout to our Music Department, Music Boosters, and all of our parent volunteers who support our students through fundraisers, routine meetings, and chaperoning and supporting our various performances. Please be on the lookout for our spring concert, which will be held this Tuesday evening @ 7:00 PM in Safka Auditorium. Please be advised that doors will open at 6:30 PM. Best of luck to our HS Concert Band, Jazz Band and Chorus students, and thanks in advance for coming out to support ‘Gansett Music!

Reminders to Students & Families |
Now that we’re officially in spring, now is a nice time to send a few gentle reminders to students, and we ask our parents/families for your help in avoiding the need to spend valuable learning time redirecting students. It should be noted that our students are very good partners with faculty and staff generally, so these items constitute reminders that come up nearly every year:
Takeout Food Delivery Not Permitted. Students are not permitted to order takeout food/delivery to the school as it causes a distraction and unnecessary non-education or parent-based in and out of the school. Student food that is ordered from school is not permitted, and will be either discarded or held until the end of the day.
Coffee and Drinks other than Water should be consumed prior to the start of school and are not allowed at school.
School Starts at 7:45 AM. Students that are consistently late to school risk credit loss and/or low grades as a result of punctuality issues. This is because students arriving even a few minutes late typically have a challenging time orienting to what the teacher is doing and/or disrupt the learning of other students.
Dress Code. Please refer to the school dress code excerpt from the student/family handbook. Students, faculty/staff are all equally uncomfortable spending learning time referring/redirecting dress code violations. Thanks for your help and cooperation adhering to handbook guidelines, especially during warmer weather. As always, we will reconsider dress code guidelines each year during review of our handbook.
Nursing Team Update: Postural Screenings |
Postural Screening Notice. Please take a moment to read this letter regarding mandated health screenings, which will take place over the ensuing weeks. Please feel comfortable reaching out to the nursing team through Ms. Jen Nolin (jnolin@nrsd.org) with any questions.
MCAS State Testing |
Each year the state requires grades 8, 9, and 10 students to participate in MCAS. HS MCAS is a graduation requirement per the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. For all of you who are advanced planners, we’d like to share our MCAS schedule with you early, in the event this helps you with planning for the spring. We’ll share more detailed information with you as the dates approach. As always, don’t hesitate to reach out cyoung@nrsd.org with any questions.
