6th Grade Literacy in Action Project!

LiteracyLiteracyLiteracy

LiteracyIn quarter two of Literacy in Action, students read a book called Posted by John David Anderson. The book touched on themes about empathy, bullying, technology in school, as well as adolescence and growing up. Throughout reading the book students had kept mentioning how they wished it was a movie that we could watch after. For the final project I asked each student to complete a movie poster that they feel would catch someone’s attention and want to see the movie the most. Some students really stuck with the theme of sticky notes and secret messages that were passed in the novel’s school, while other students chose to illustrate moments of action, like “the big game” in the football field, or when characters raced their bike down the gauntlet. For each poster students had to write a movie summary, featuring keywords important to the novel and themes, as well as the main characters of the story.

Students and families: do you have pictures from any athletic events this year that you want to see in the yearbook? If so, please contact NMS Yearbook Advisor, Mrs. Katie McBrine! Email her at: kmcbrine@nrsd.org

head😃 Get involved! Join a Club or Activity!

NMS offers several ways for students to get involved beyond the school day. Students should listen for morning announcements, read The Friday Memo, and watch the lobby whiteboard and monitor for announcements regarding club start dates, directions for joining, and when the club runs. Clubs meet right after school and end in time to catch the late bus!
