NMS has a culture of continuous improvement--improvement in every aspect of teaching & learning and the student experience in order to support students being productive at their highest levels. We are in the business of student achievement and building a positive school culture--these are the only agendas at NMS that count!
💦 Please be sure that any water bottles that are being sent to school meet specifications that we've shared from the start of the year. Bottes must snap tightly or screw shut; cups with straws are not permitted for safety reason as well as potential damage to equipment. Students have access to functioning water fountains if they are unable to bring a water bottle that meets these requirements. As we start the second half of the year with months of reminders, students have had plenty of notice that they need to have the type of drinking vessel that meets expectations.
5th Grade Literacy Students Celebrate!
Earlier this month, students received notices if their Mini Saga: Fright Club that they wrote in October was chosen for submission to the Young Writers publication. Students were asked to write a mini saga with a frightening theme - it could be funny, mysterious, or terrifying! Mini sagas are written in 100 words or less and include a beginning, middle and end.
Students who completed the assignment by the deadline in class were submitted to the Young Writers contest. Students whose submissions were chosen received a certificate and a packet of information on how to be published. Permission to be published must be received to Young Writers (directions in the packet for filling out on the website) by January 26th.
If you choose to order a book for your family, you can do so also on the website using the directions from the packet. Publishing does not rely on ordering a book. Students may be published without ordering a book, as long as permission is received on the website. If you order a book, those are set for publication by April 7. Books will be delivered to the school sometime after this date and will be distributed in class.
If you have any questions, please let Mrs. Ehnstrom know. Congratulations to our budding writers!

Tickets will be awarded at the end of the day on Wednesday, January 29!
Students and families: do you have pictures from any athletic events this year that you want to see in the yearbook? If so, please contact NMS Yearbook Advisor, Mrs. Katie McBrine! Email her at: kmcbrine@nrsd.org
Inclement weather, snow / ice delays and cancellations will be sent by the district when decisions about school have been made and you will receive automated calls and texts. Please be sure your most updated contact information is on file with the schools. Posts will also be made on the Narragansett Regional School District's Facebook page. Snow days will impact the last day of school, which will be noted in Important Dates & Reminders, below, as well as being listed in the Events section of the NMS website.
🗳️Question of the Week:
✏️ Please weigh in on our question:
What is your favorite winter activity?
Anti-Bullying Month continues with our last Kindness Challenge and Dress-up Day next week!
Next week is the last week for Anti-Bullying month! Be sure to get all your blue and white gear ready to dress up Thursday for 'Gansett Pride Day!
This year we expanded our Anti-Bullying week into the entire month of January! Each week has one Kindness Challenge and one dress-up day, for which students can earn their Warrior Bling! Check out the details in the flyer, above, and be sure to participate!
Below (top to bottom: 5th grade, 6th grade, 7th grade), this week's Kindness Challenge of adding a snowflake of gratitude to the grade-level snow banks really added up and demonstrated how much our students appreciate what they have!
Students in Mr. Bertoni's 6th Grade Health classes recently worked on a unit of study about the types of bullying and their negative effects. Around NMS, you can currently see one of the products of this study in the artwork and posters that outline their learning.
Congratulations to Calise Perez, who is a 6th grade student, and accomplished gymnast outside of school (continued, below).
She received medals by working hard and trying her best in gymnastics. She attends Fliptastics Gymnastics in Fitchburg MA for her training and has a competition every 2 months. This was her first competition of the season. The red trophy and the red medals are from a competition held in Connecticut. Calise earned first place in all four events: the beam, vault, uneven bars, and floor routines which means that she received a trophy for “best all round” as well, and was told that she was the only one that didn’t fall from the beam! Calise also was told that she had the best warmup. Calise works hard on her athletic accomplishments and should be very proud of her awards!

😃 Get involved! Join a Club or Activity!
NMS offers several ways for students to get involved beyond the school day. Students should listen for morning announcements, read The Friday Memo, and watch the lobby whiteboard and monitor for announcements regarding club start dates, directions for joining, and when the club runs. Clubs meet right after school and end in time to catch the late bus!
