Congratulations to our newest students of the month!

Students of the MonthChosen by staff, Students of the Month exemplify the core values of NMS, which include respect, perseverance, and integrity.  Students of the Month are also those who strive to meet our Shared Expectations of Be Nice, Work Hard, No Excuses, and Good Choices!  This month's selectees were (back row, left to right): Joey Tomasetti, Ella Matuszewski, Cade Walters; (front row) Sylvain-Michael Ramsey, Isabelle Murawski, Giuliana Hendley, Howard Camber, Jace Powers.

Fear Factor MathAAAAA!As the saying goes, "We have nothing to fear but fear itself!" and definitely nothing to fear about math itself, but on Thursday, October 31, Mrs. Despres' 5th Grade Math classes got to experience some slimy pseudo-fear and fun during Fear Factor Math! Working in teams, students took turns extracting a math problem from a box that contained one of a variety of icky items, and then work with their teammates to solve it. Students (shown below) delighted in having to handle items mimicking intestines, eyeballs, human skin, and bugs & maggots (we won't give away the secrets but it wasn't actually that stuff...😂...) . Thanks to Mrs Despres, the cloaked 5th Grade Math Maven in the photos, for making a fun, holiday-themed lesson that these students won't soon forget.

Fear Factor MathAAAA!

Color Wars Days!

Skittles ActivityNMS Had a Great Spirit Dress-up Day on Thursday, October 31! Narragansett Middle School challenged all students and staff to dress to represent their grade in a COLOR WAR which is why you see a lot of purple in the images below (6th Grade was assigned purple!). Students celebrated the Halloween spirit in Mrs. Parker's class by working on a ratio and proportional relationships activity using brightly colored Skittles (above)!

🎃 Congratulations to the winner of the

LEO CLUB SPOOKY HALLOWEEN BASKET RAFFLE!

Calling all students interested in participating the MUSICAL NEXT SPRING!

The musical "The Little Mermaid" will be holding auditions in December! Students in grades 7-12 can audition for roles in the musical, while students in grades 5 and 6 can submit a signed parent / guardian permission slip to participate as members of the (non-speaking) ensemble. Questions? Contact Mrs. Ann Lyons, Musical Business Director at alyons@nrsd.org.

The Sixth Grade "House Book Challenge" is Officially Underway!

This year, each term, our sixth-grade classes (each class named its own "house") will compete to see which can claim the title of House Page Turner Champions by reading the most “Just Right” books. Students are encouraged to read daily for 20 minutes, practicing skills and strategies taught in the classroom. Once a book is completed, students will submit a brief review and a spine slip to contribute to our ever-growing wall bookshelf display. Below, the board which was updated to reflect the most recent submissions as of Halloween. 😃

Mrs. TAt the end of each term, the house with the highest number of books read will earn the champion title and a special prize! Let the pages turn and the challenge begin—happy reading to all!

🗓 Important Information for Any Student Staying After School & Late Bus Details!

Students who remain after school must be with a school-related activity (club or sports), or meeting with a teacher. Students are not permitted to loiter on school grounds after dismissal. The district offers a late bus to students on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday which departs from the rear parking lot at 2:55 p.m. sharp. Any student looking to utilize the late bus must be aware of two important details:

  • The late bus does NOT follow routes of the morning or afternoon buses that bring students to and from school. Check HERE for the list of stops the late bus follows; and

  • ALL students riding the late bus must obtain a pass from the teacher with whom they stayed after school. Students will not be permitted on the late bus without a valid pass from the teacher the student was with after school.

NMS Clubs & Activities😃 Get involved! Join a Club or Activity!

NMS offers several ways for students to get involved beyond the school day. Students should listen for morning announcements, read The Friday Memo, and watch the lobby whiteboard and monitor for announcements regarding club start dates, directions for joining, and when the club runs. Clubs meet right after school until the late bus
