A message from the 7th Grade Team

Annual Quabbin Field Trip!

Dear Seventh Grade Parents & Guardians:

The 7th Grade Team is in the process of planning a field trip to the Quabbin Reservoir in Belchertown, MA.  This field trip will take place on Friday, October 18, 2024 (rain date Friday, October 25, 2024.)  Students will leave Narragansett Middle School promptly at 7:55 a.m. and will return at 2:05 p.m.  Lunch is NOT included in the cost of the trip.  Students are to bring a "brown bag" lunch and drink (no glass or energy drinks are allowed.)  This field trip will be informative as well as exciting!  There will be various stations each bus will visit throughout the Quabbin Reservoir, which also includes a stop at the McLaughlin Fish Hatchery in Belchertown.

Please note:

  • Cost of the trip is $10 per student

  • Students will leave Narragansett Middle School promptly at 7:55 a.m. and will  return at 2:05 p.m.

  • Dress for the weather --- students will be outside all day and hiking

  • Sturdy shoes are required --- no flip flops or sandals

  • Lunch is NOT included in the cost of the trip.  Students are to bring a "brown bag" lunch and drink (no glass or energy drinks are allowed.)  Lunches and snacks should be peanut free.

  • Refunds will be given only if the trip is canceled

Permission slips were distributed to students in Science class.  Please return the permission slip along with payment of $10 by MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 16, 2024 to your Science Teacher.  Please make checks payable to Narragansett Middle School (NMS).

We hope that your child will take part in this enjoyable and educational experience!  This trip is an academic experience that will help support what the 7th grade students will be learning about in Science class this year.  It will be very difficult to recreate this experience within the walls of a classroom.

We may need (8) chaperones.  If parents are interested in chaperoning, please email Mrs. Clark at sclark@nrsd.org    Chaperones do not need to pay for their spot on the trip. *CORI must be completed in the office!**

* Cost of the trip is $10  Any donations for students unable to pay would be greatly appreciated!  Thank you!

Media/Publications Opt-Out Form

Click here if you would like to opt having your student's name or likeness used in various media outlets commonly utilized by public schools. If you are not opting out a student, you do NOT need to return the form. This form must be returned by Thursday, September 19, 2024.

Please consider joining our School Council!

School Councils contribute input to some important processes for public schools in Massachusetts. We are looking for both parents / guardians and community members to sit on the Narragansett Middle School Council for this year. Our first meeting will be Monday, October 7, at 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. If you are interested, please email NMS Principal Mary LaFreniere by Friday, September 20. Thanks in advance for your support!

🗓 Important Information for Any Student Staying After School & Late Bus Details!

Students who remain after school must be with a school-related activity (club or sports), or meeting with a teacher. Students are not permitted to loiter on school grounds after dismissal. The district offers a late bus to students on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday which departs from the rear parking lot at 2:55 p.m. sharp. Any student looking to utilize the late bus must be aware of two important details:

  • The late bus does NOT follow routes of the morning or afternoon buses that bring students to and from school. Check HERE for the list of stops the late bus follows; and

  • ALL students riding the late bus must obtain a pass from the teacher with whom they stayed after school. Students will not be permitted on the late bus without a valid pass from the teacher the student was with after school.

Book TastingBook TastingBook TastingBook TastingAbove, Mrs. Ehnstrom's 5th Grade Literacy class participates in a "Book Tasting"! Students sat at stations around the room, on which books of various genres were placed. Students got a "taste" of each type of book by doing a quick survey of different aspects: it's title, the impression the cover gives the reader, and a quick read through the first few pages, along with an assessment of any "hook" the author created in them to grab the reader's attention. Fostering a love of reading and introducing students to many different genres are fundamental goals and this fun activity did both!

NMS Clubs & Activities

😃 Get involved! Join a Club or Activity!

NMS offers several ways for students to get involved beyond the school day. Students should listen for morning announcements, read The Friday Memo, and watch the lobby whiteboard and monitor for announcements regarding club start dates, directions for joining, and when the club runs. Clubs meet right after school until the late bus

Intramurals have already been announced, and permission slips have been collected this week. Any student in grades 5 and 6 wishing the play Intramurals should return a permission slip from Miss Eaton (PE / Health) or from the main office and return in before play begins on Monday, September 16.

The International Club will start next Thursday the 19th and will meet every Thursday from 2:20-2:50. This club is open to students in grades 5-7 and will be learning about countries and cultures from all around the world! Activities include arts and crafts, music, film, games, and snacks :) Stop by Room 14 and see Mrs. Medlicott to grab a permission slip!

Student Council is a group of students whose goals are to work together to help our community and to make our middle school a better place to be. Two to three students from each homeroom will be chosen to represent your grade level.  Members will be announced next Monday.
