The Friday Memo heading

Happy Friday to everyone in the NMS Community!

🗓 MCAS CONTINUES YET AGAIN MONDAY!  OUR LAST week of testing is coming up, with 6th grade math and 5th grade science next week. Make ups will follow and be ongoing until the window closes toward the end of the month. Click here for the Narragansett Middle School MCAS calendar!  Please avoid any unnecessary absences during MCAS and whenever possible, avoid scheduling appointments during testing that will require students to miss classes for make up sessions. Also, please be sure students are supported at home by having them charge their Chromebook fully each night and remember their charger each morning as well. Getting a good night's sleep and eating healthy meals will also make this testing period go more smoothly.

🎨Congratulations to NMS art students who recently participated in the Peace Poster Contest and celebrated with a pizza party last week! In 1988, Lions Clubs International created the Peace Poster Contest as a way for young people to creatively express their visions of peace and allow them to share these visions with the world. The Templeton & Phillipston Lions Clubs honored students who created excellent artworks during this years’ Lions Club International Peace Poster Contest with a pizza party and award ceremony during lunch this past Friday. The ceremony was a great success! Patriots  Pizza was delicious and enjoyed by all. Students received awards and gifts of art supplies. Top prize winners received Walmart gift cards. The following students were honored:  First Place: Hala Caruso; Honorable Mentions: Sophia Boumil, Danaca Frades, Kylee Day, Cassidy Scoville, Shylah Maher, Ali Torres, and Chloie Gagne. Phillipston Peace Poster Winners: Gwen Dupuis, Bonnie Keating, Gianna Marshall, Sarah Martin.  Shown, below:  Templeton Lion Linda Columbus is shown with top prize winner Hala Caruso and also, below that, Hala's winning poster.

The 2023-2024 theme is “Dare to Dream”  Posters are evaluated on three criteria. The criteria are originality, artistic merit, and expression of the theme.

☺️ Students in Mrs. Ehnstrom's 5th Grade Foundational Literacy classes are currently studying Kindness in Literature. They read Will you Be the I in Kind? by Julia Cook and We're All Wonders by R.J. Palacio. Students took the Kindness Pledge and identified 10 acts of kindness to "Be the I in Kind." They then identified 8 positive characteristics that make them a "Wonder" like Auggie.

❤️‍🩹 Nurse Notes

From NMS Nursing:

  • Friendly reminders from the Health Office…

    • With cold and flu season in full swing, please remind your students to wash hands FREQUENTLY, bring a water bottle THAT SEALS to school, and to NOT touch their face and mouth.

    • For ALL medical absences (COVID, flu, strep, etc.) we require doctors notes to make absences excused

    • Please be mindful of the ill exclusion protocol, which can be found in the handbook. If you have any questions, please reach out to us!

  • Field trip season is here!!! If your student requires any emergency medications (such as an Epipen, inhaler, etc.), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop them off to the health office at your earliest convenience (if you have not done so already).

  • We now have a Telehealth Cart in the health office, to rule out acute illnesses such as strep throat, ear infections, contagious illnesses, etc.. If the nursing staff deem your student appropriate for a telehealth visit, with your permission, we will get your student seen by our partnering Nurse Practitioner. ANY questions, please contact me.
