Happy Friday to everyone in the NMS Community!

Group photo of students🎉Congratulations to our newest Students of the Month!   On Thursday afternoon, April 25, the NMS student body and staff gathered in the Safka Auditorium to celebrate our latest group named Students of the Month!  These students, selected by staff members, are chosen because they exemplify the core values of Be Nice, Work Hard, No Excusesand Good Choices, which are the foundation of NMS's Shared Expectations. Through these building-wide expectations, students learn positive decision making and build skills in successful participation in classrooms and common spaces, which create spaces where students can thrive, unimpeded, academically.  Congratulations to (above, back row, left to right): Ellison Ambrogi, Emma Flurry, Imad Bouteldji, Amelia Hamel; (front row, left to right): Khloe Bednarczyk, Dylan Ardinger, Keegan Caplis, Ryan Smith, and Logan Breton.

🗓 MCAS CONTINUES in May!  Click here for the Narragansett Middle School MCAS calendar!  Please avoid any unnecessary absences during MCAS and whenever possible, avoid scheduling appointments during testing that will require students to miss classes for make up sessions. Also, please be sure students are supported at home by having them charge their Chromebook fully each night and remember their charger each morning as well. Getting a good night's sleep and eating healthy meals will also make this testing period go more smoothly.

📝In Mrs. King’s 7th grade Literacy in Action class, students have been focusing on skills including creativity, innovation, leadership, and advocacy as they complete a unit on what it means to be a change agent. Guided by their teacher, students studied the status of a historical structure in Nashville, TN, and then worked to help try and save it from being torn down. Monell’s at the Manor, formally known as the Colemere Mansion, has been part of history since the early 1900’s. Businessmen, Presidents and many celebrities would come here to discuss business, trade and to just get away from it all. The manor is now being run by Michael King, a former resident of Templeton. The local airport is looking to expand onto land where the manor is, which means the manor would be demolished if not saved.

The 7th grade class came together and created posters and letters to help save this historical landmark. The students mailed their work to Tennessee, where their work was then displayed and shown throughout the mansion. Students even got recognized on the local news stations in Nashville. In their efforts to help save the manor, the current owner sent the students t-shirts and a personal video of thanks. Even though the fate of the mansion is still unknown, the students truly got to see first-hand what it takes to become a change agent in the world.

On Wednesday, May 1, Mrs. King and some of her students will be presenting their project to the NRSD School Committee. Stay tuned next week for more details and photos, but in the meantime, below is a picture of several students sporting the t-shirts given to them by the owner's mansion as a token of his appreciation. ❤️‍🩹 Nurse Notes

From NMS Nursing:

  • Friendly reminders from the Health Office…

    • With cold and flu season in full swing, please remind your students to wash hands FREQUENTLY, bring a water bottle THAT SEALS to school, and to NOT touch their face and mouth.

    • For ALL medical absences (COVID, flu, strep, etc.) we require doctors notes to make absences excused

    • Please be mindful of the ill exclusion protocol, which can be found in the handbook. If you have any questions, please reach out to us!

  • Field trip season is here!!! If your student requires any emergency medications (such as an Epipen, inhaler, etc.), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop them off to the health office at your earliest convenience (if you have not done so already).

  • We now have a Telehealth Cart in the health office, to rule out acute illnesses such as strep throat, ear infections, contagious illnesses, etc.. If the nursing staff deem your student appropriate for a telehealth visit, with your permission, we will get your student seen by our partnering Nurse Practitioner. ANY questions, please contact me.
