Hello, NMS Families and Community!
Beware the Ides of March? Nahhhh...we're enjoying our late winter weeks and looking forward to a lot coming up!
🥳 NMS wishes to extend the warmest of welcomes to our new main office administrative assistant, Mrs. Yelimar Day! Mrs. Day joins us from TES, so will be a familiar face to many of our students. Mrs. Melanie Murphy, our current main office administrative assistant, will be working with Mrs. Day during the transition and then will be moving over to the Central Office to support registrar duties and data for the district. We want to also extend the most sincere thanks to Mrs. Murphy for her outstanding dedication to NMS and support for our students and staff over the past four years. She will be dearly missed but we wish her the best of luck in her new role!
Still don't have the 'Gansett app? Stay Connected! Download the NRSD app and sign up to receive alerts for a specific school, or the district as a whole! Go to the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) to get the NRSD app and search "Narragansett Regional SD, MA"
Sixth graders traveled to the Worcester Art Museum today! Thank you to The Phillipston and Templeton chapters of the Massachusetts Cultural Council for their generous support that in part made this trip possible! Thank you also to Mrs. Dupuis, NMS Art Teacher, and the 6th Grade Team of teachers for their help in organizing this important experience! (shown, right, and below, NMS students enjoy the Worcester Art Museum during a day packed with tours and fun art activities!)
🗓 MCAS is coming! Click here for the Narragansett Middle School MCAS calendar! Please avoid any unnecessary absences during MCAS and whenever possible, avoid scheduling appointments during testing that will require students to miss classes for make up sessions.
🪙 Penny Wars rage on! What are "Penny Wars"? This is a fundraiser that pits classes, or grades, against each other in the quest to collect the most points. Points are earned by adding pennies to the jar, so students want to collect as many pennies as they can in their own grade's jar. BUT, you can take away points from a competing class' point total by adding SILVER: nickels (minus five points), dimes (minus ten points), quarters (minus twenty-five points) or paper bills (a dollar reduces the point total by A HUNDRED!) to their jar. Donate big and keep the point total of your rivals down! If it looks like they're gaining on your grade with pennies, throw in some silver to bring down their total! THANK YOU to StuCo for organizing and running this fun event. All proceeds go to charity.
🧢 Spring Athletic registration is NOW CLOSED! Check the Athletic Department webpage for details on upcoming games for baseball, softball, and track meets!
Easter Basket Raffle , sponsored by NRSD Leo Club! Tickets $1.00 each and all proceeds go to charity. Our Leo Club members did an awesome job creating these beautiful Easter Baskets to raise funds for charity. They are filled with stuffed animals, small toys, stickers and fun Easter theme items! The raffle runs through 3/28, when winners will be drawn!. This is an extremely popular raffle each year, so get your tickets early so you don't miss out!
☀️ It's coming....are YOU going? Do not miss the once-in-a-lifetime solar eclipse or our NMS Solar Eclipse Party on Monday, April 8th! NMS is celebrating this exciting event with students in grades 5-7, who will be invited to return the permission slip (coming soon) to attend a party with classmates and staff to view this unique and awe-inspiring sight. The NRSD Snack Shack will be open, selling food and drinks. Peaking just before 3:30 p.m., the eclipse will conclude and student should plan to be picked by 4:00 p.m. Certified* eclipse eyewear will be provided for safe solar viewing. Eclipse glass availability is limited, so don't delay once permission slips are released! *Eclipse glasses certified by EclipseGlasses.com, an American Paper Optics subsidiary. Click here to see a short video about the event!
📣 A reminder that any student who remains on school grounds after dismissal must be scheduled to stay with a teacher, or NMS activity. For safety and security reasons, students are not permitted to loiter in or around the building when the day is over. Don't forget that all students riding the late bus are required to have a pass signed by the teacher with whom they stayed after school.

From Nurse McKinnon:
Friendly reminders from the Health Office…
With cold and flu season in full swing, please remind your students to wash hands FREQUENTLY, bring a water bottle THAT SEALS to school, and to NOT touch their face and mouth.
For ALL medical absences (COVID, flu, strep, ect.) we require doctors notes to make absences excused
Please be mindful of the ill exclusion protocol, which can be found in the handbook. If you have any questions, please reach out to me!
Field trip season is here!!! If your student requires any emergency medications (such as an Epipen, inhaler, ect), PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE drop them off to the health office at your earliest convenience (if you have not done so already).
We now have a Telehealth Cart in the health office, to rule out acute illnesses such as strep throat, ear infections, contagious illnesses, ect.. If the nursing staff deem your student appropriate for a telehealth visit, with your permission, we will get your student seen by our partnering Nurse Practitioner. ANY questions, please contact me.
