On Tuesday, January 30th, 7th Grade Parents and students are invited to attend a presentation about The Ecology School at Ferry Beach at 6:15 in the Safka auditorium!  Come learn about the week long field trip to The Ecology School at Ferry Beach in Saco Maine this spring.  You will have an opportunity to have any questions answered by the seventh grade teachers.   We hope that all students will be able to participate in this valuable trip!  We will be asking for a refundable $25 deposit from interested students to secure our spot!  Thank you.  We look forward to seeing you!--The 7th Grade Team

🎉Congratulations to our newest Students of the Month!   On Thursday, January 25, the NMS student body and staff gathered in the Safka Auditorium to celebrate our latest group named Students of the Month!  These students, selected by staff members, are chosen because they exemplify the core values of Be Nice, Work Hard, No Excusesand Good Choices, which are the foundation of NMS's Shared Expectations. Through these building-wide expectations, students learn positive decision making and build skills in successful participation in classrooms and common spaces, which create spaces where students can thrive, unimpeded, academically.  Congratulations to (above, back row, left to right):  Shylah Mahar, Ellia Glasson, Carter Kauffman, Daisy Niemczura (inset), Kayden Robichaud (inset); (front row, left to right) Stephanie Johnson, Carter Dexter, Mateo Amistadi Madonna, Tyler Berry.

5th Grade students participated in a writing contest sponsored Young Writers. "Young Writers was established in 1991 in a small warehouse in Eastern England and has blossomed into a worldwide brand! Today, Young Writers is still a modest family-run business, but on a much bigger scale than its humble beginnings. We pride ourselves on encouraging young writers to read, write and enjoy poetry as well as creative writing. Having work published boosts confidence, nurtures creative talent and showcases creativity." (from writingcorner.com) Students were asked to write a mini-saga (100 word story) with the theme of being hunted. Finished entries were submitted to the company in October. Student work that followed the expectations from the company's contest guidelines were selected to be published in a book this Spring. Narragansett's 5th graders will have their work published in a compilation book with other entries from Massachusetts. Congratulations to our budding writers!  Above, students in Mrs. Ehnstrom's classes proudly display their certificates.

💰A message from the school district:  As the Narragansett Regional School District begins to formalize its FY25 budget planning process, we want to hear from you!  We designed this anonymous survey to help our school community share their input with the School Committee and the District Leadership Team to identify areas we can improve to ensure that our community is as educated as it is informed of the budget process.   Please take a few minutes to participate in this quick survey that addresses these two points. All survey participants will be anonymous, and we kindly ask that you only complete the survey once to ensure that we are gathering the most accurate information.  Click here to take the survey!

📣 A reminder that any student who remains on school grounds after dismissal must be scheduled to stay with a teacher, or NMS activity.  For safety and security reasons, students are not permitted to loiter in or around the building when the day is over.  Don't forget that all students riding the late bus are required to have a pass signed by the teacher with whom they stayed after school.

❤️‍🩹 Nurse Notes

From Nurse McKinnon:

With cold and flu season fast approaching, please remind your students to wash hands FREQUENTLY, bring a water bottle THAT SEALS to school, and to NOT touch their face and mouth.

Did your student test positive for COVID? Here is the timeline...

  • Day 0 is the day you develop symptoms OR the day you test positive- whichever is earlier.

  • Remain Isolated through Day 5

  • Come out of isolation and return to school on Day 6 with a mask

    • If you have a negative test result on day 5, or later

    • you no longer need to mask (although we are encouraging masking through day 10)

  • Mask at all times except while eating and drinking through day 10

  • WE ARE REQUIRING DOCTORS NOTES FOR ALL COVID POSITIVES TO MAKE THE ABSENCES EXCUSED.  Most doctors have not had a problem with this, even with a positive home test
