What's New This Week!

🧳 Ecology School 🌿 families!  Don't forget Sunday night's BAG DROP! All students participating in Ecology School, which departs Monday morning, must bring their luggage to NMS on Sunday night.  Please refer to the specifics sent by Mrs. Chagnon (click here for a link to her email!), and contact her if you have any questions (jchagnon@nrsd.org).  The Ecology School trip is next week!

📖 NMS yearbooks have arrived!   Yearbooks that have been ordered and paid for will be distributed next week at lunch!  If you didn't order yours ahead of time, no problem!  Students can purchase a yearbook for $30 next week during lunch.  All checks should be made out to Narragansett Middle School and they'll be on sale until supplies run out.

🏗On Wednesday during activity block, students in Mrs. Despres' 5th grade math class were given a challenge!  Students were broken into groups and using only 20 sheets of paper they needed to build the highest tower possible in the time given.

🇲🇽 In honor of Cinco de Mayo, a day celebrating Mexican culture and heritage, Mrs. Medlicott's Spanish classes created their own representations of Mexican Yarn Art, or "nierikas", traditionally done by the Huichol people of Mexico.  Each student planned out their designs and then added yarn strand by strand to make their piece.  These colorful and interesting artworks have been on display in the middle school lobby this week and have attracted a lot of attention.  Shown, below, is the lobby display as well as a few individual nierkas.

Next week: Grade 6th History projects!

In Case you Missed it, Here's the Recap!

😎 Please be sure you are preparing your students for any outdoor activities they may participate in during the day at NMS by applying sunscreen in the morning!  Physical Education teachers often hold lessons outside during the nicer weather, and there are a variety of other opportunities that teachers in other classes take advantage of as well.  Applying sunscreen before school and / or supplying students with it to apply themselves at school is strongly recommended for any time of the year, but especially during these warm, sunny months.  Good health habits include skin care, and sunscreen is an important step in protecting skin every day.

📰 Do you have newspapers you need to recycle?  WE WOULD LOVE TO HAVE THEM! Mrs. Dupuis' Art students use newspapers for their sculpture projects, so any newspaper you are looking to discard, please consider donating it to NMS!  We can take any clean newspapers you have in our main office.  Thank you for your support!

🚫 Please remember that students are not permitted to use their cell phone at school.  If you need to contact your student in an emergency, please contact the main office and we will relay the message.  Students who are using their devices will receive a tech violation write up, and depending on how many they have accrued, may be subject to disciplinary action.
