Green Grass

🎨 🎶 On Tuesday night, April 11, Narragansett Middle School's student artists and musicians treated us to a wonderful display of artwork and music! This celebration of the talent and hard work that our student musicians and artists have invested this year is always a favorite event.   Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support of our students and the NMS Visual and Performing Arts program!

NMS's Student Council hosted a lovely Staff Appreciation Breakfast on Wednesday, April 12.  StuCo members made or donated treats for NMS staff to enjoy before starting their day (see below).   In addition, to show their appreciation for how hard NMS staff members work, StuCo members greeted staff as they arrived (below) and even offered to carry bags into the building for them (below).  Thank you to all of our awesome StuCo members as well as Mrs. Wheeler and Mrs. Parker, StuCo co-advisors!

Thank you to all the families who joined us for Teacher Conferences!  And THANK YOU to our awesome StuCo Ambassadors for their warm welcome and assistance to our families throughout conferences.  During this event, StuCo members had the opportunity to present their donation of $100 to the Templeton Food Pantry (see below).  These funds were raised during Penny Wars this winter.  (right, just some of our StuCo members enjoying pizza before they prepare to welcome families for teacher conferences!)

Beginning on April 24, any water bottle that students carry must seal tightly with a cap or lid to prevent spills, damage from water, or unsafe walking conditions due to leaks.  This is a safety issue.  Students should also prepare by filling their water bottle before school, during transitions, or during lunch.  There are ample bubblers and a water filling station accessible.

💻 MCAS testing will continue off and on through mid-May.  Please be especially mindful of unnecessary absences  during this six-week time, as the windows assigned by the state are limited in what make up time we have.  Arriving on time on MCAS days is imperative, as we cannot disturb testing sessions by admitting late students.  All test dates have been finalized and can be found on the calendar below.  Any changes will be  updated.

Students in Mrs. Medlicott's Spanish classes have been learning about the cultural celebration and traditions taking place during La Semana Santa, or Holy Week, in many Spanish-speaking countries.  One such tradition includes creating alfombras de asserin--carpets of sawdust--such as those pictured (inset, below).  NMS Spanish classes created their own alfombras de asserin using chalk (see below).  These beautiful artworks greeted students, staff, and visitors throughout the week before vacation.

🚫 Please remember that students are not permitted to use their cell phone at school.  If you need to contact your student in an emergency, please contact the main office and we will relay the message.  Students who are using their devices will receive a tech violation write up, and depending on how many they have accrued, may be subject to disciplinary action.

🤧  Here in the health office, we have noticed an increase in the spread of communicable diseases. Specifically conjunctivitis (or pink eye), stomach bug, and strep throat. Please remind your students the importance of frequent handwashing and to not touch their eyes or face. If your child is experiencing any concerning symptoms, please touch base with your child's doctor as soon as possible. Any questions/concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via email at amckinnon@nrsd.org, or by phone at 978-939-2113.
