What's New This Week! |
🏆 Congratulations to the latest group of NMS Students of the Month! Pictured, below, are (back row, left to right): Lydia Draleau, Judah Lorion, Joey Hamel, Brianna Beauregard, Austin Quinones, Leanne Rene; (front row, left to right) Mia Lyskawa, Emylia Day, and Jacobie Lowe. Students of the Month are selected by faculty / staff and exemplify the core values of NMS! Their pictures are displayed in the NMS lobby to celebrate their recognition and so other students can be inspired to do their best!
🎨 🎶 On Tuesday night, April 11, Narragansett Middle School will host its Spring Art Show and Concert! Join us for a celebration of the talent and hard work that our student musicians and artists have invested this year! Doors open at 5:45 p.m. so guests can view the artwork displayed throughout the lobby and cafeteria, then the concert starts at 6:30 p.m. in the Safka Auditorium. Don't miss this favorite annual event and come support our students!
📖 Order your NMS yearbook! Go online now to ybpay.lifetouch.com to order
yours! The 2023 NMS yearbook code is 14306923.
🗓 Don't forget! Report cards will now be available in the School Brains portal after 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 13.
**Conference Sign Ups Open!** Teacher Conferences will be held next week, April 12 and 13, which will be half days (for students) to accommodate afternoon conference sessions. The conference windows are 11:45 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. (the last appointment is 2:15 p.m.each day -- please note there are no evening Spring conferences). Conference sign ups will close at midnight on Sunday, April 10. Instructions and a link to make an appointment for a teacher conference can be found here. Because report cards will NOT be out before conferences because of the snow day pushback (Term 3 closing a week later), please be sure you are keeping on top of student progress in the School Brains platform!
💻 MCAS testing started this week and will continue off and on through mid-May. Grade 7 will test next Monday and Tuesday to wrap up ELA and then after April vacation all grades will test two sessions of math, and 5th grade only will also test two sessions of science. Please be especially mindful of unnecessary absences during this six-week time, as the windows assigned by the state are limited in what make up time we have. Arriving on time on MCAS days is imperative, as we cannot disturb testing sessions by admitting late students. All test dates have been finalized and can be found on the calendar below. Any changes will be updated.
🚫 Please remember that students are not permitted to use their cell phone at school. If you need to contact your student in an emergency, please contact the main office and we will relay the message. Students who are using their devices will receive a tech violation write up, and depending on how many they have accrued, may be subject to disciplinary action.
📲 Parents of middle school students! Check out "How Social Media Affects Your Child's Brain", an article containing information about middle school students and social media. "Social media isn't going anywhere, so parents need to understand how it affects kids and determine what role it should play in our children's lives." Click here to read more from the article by Hank Pellisier from GreatSchools.org.
😃 Our wonderful Student Council students regularly share positive affirmations with their fellow students and with the faculty and staff at NMS. These consist of encouraging or affirming statements posted on the wall and intended to support and inspire others. Below are a few examples, and more can be found here.
