NMS Students prepare for the Quabbin Valley Music Festival!
[NMS musicians looking sharp as they pose for a picture before leaving school on Tuesday to head to the Quabbin Valley Music Festival Rehearsal at Palmer High School. On the back, “Don’t Be Sharp, Don’t Be Flat, Just Be Natural” (for those who don’t speak music) ]
Eleven NMS students traveled to Palmer High School on Tuesday, January 31st. Along with students from schools across the central part of the state, NMS musicians rehearsed in preparation for the festival which will be held on Thursday, February 16th at 7:00 p.m. at Tantasqua Regional High School. The Quabbin Valley Music Educators Association created this esteemed event, which gathers students recommended by their respective music teachers together and organizes them into four musical performing groups. Participants challenge themselves to meet the high expectations of the ensemble format and the demanding task of preparing for a concert performance with limited rehearsal time. This non-profit organization often brings in outside conductors to (from the QVMEA website) “…help ensure that the students receive a fresh point of view about performing music.” Thank you to Mr. Salvadore, NMS Band Director, for organizing and accompanying the NMS contingent, as well as the following students for sharing their skill and dedication with other schools’ musicians: (back row, left to right) Charlotte Adams, Aine Thornton, Taylor Wenthworth; middle row: Casidie Kliskey, Natalya DeMarco, Anastasia Croteau, Morgan Habel, Connor Johnson, Sophia Snyder; front row: Jillian Cutler-Johnson, Sarah Littlewood. And thank you to NMS band parent Deidre Johnson, who designed and donated the awesome and admired sweatshirts our students sported while at this week’s rehearsal.
[Above: On Thursday, February 2nd, the NRHS Varsity Letterman’s Club sponsored an incredible evening of basketball fun as the Harlem Wizards played NRSD staff! Billed as “Tricks Hoops and Alley Oops!”, this evening of entertainment did not disappoint. Playing before a sold-out crowd, the Wizards showed off their professional basketball skills, weaving comedy and jaw-dropping tricks into an unforgettable show. Keep your eyes open for next year’s show; you will not want to miss it!]
[Left: Thursday morning before the big evening event, a member of the Harlem Wizards stopped by NMS to meet the students and have some fun with student volunteers. Shown above, left, Bryce Doucette, and right, Ava Enright get to help with some trick demonstrations.]
